Flu in Our Footprint

Submitted by eapullin on

As our frontline teams can attest, this has been a busy respiratory virus season. This year, for instance, we’ve seen the highest level of influenza cases since 2022. Within our region, numbers have been particularly high in Rockbridge and Franklin County, though influenza is present throughout the area and impacting all populations and age groups.

Due to the high prevalence of admitted patients with respiratory illnesses at CFMH, that hospital is currently asking patients, staff and visitors to wear masks to limit the spread of germs. Infection Prevention and Control is working with teams across the system to monitor needs and will provide updates as needed.

In the meantime, help us to prevent the spread of flu:

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes.
  • Clean and disinfect.
  • Know the symptoms.
    • Common symptoms for flu, RSV and COVID-19 include:
      • Fever and chills
      • Cough
      • Sore throat
      • Runny or stuffy nose
      • Muscle or body aches
      • Headaches
      • Fatigue
    • Common symptoms for Norovirus include:
      • Nausea
      • Vomiting
      • Diarrhea

If you experience symptoms, work with your supervisor to follow sick protocols.

We have seen more flu cases this year than in previous flu seasons.

Prevent the spread of germs by washing hands, covering coughs and disinfecting surfaces.

Watch for symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Stay home if you’re sick and notify your supervisor if you become ill at work.
