New Chair for Obstetrics and Gynecology Hired
After a comprehensive national search, we are excited to share that we have hired Tristi Metcalf, MD, to chair the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. She will join us in April.
Dr. Metcalf comes from Cleveland Clinic where she worked as OB/GYN and Women’s Institute Chief since 2021, overseeing more than 200 physicians, 75 APPs and 75 residents and fellows in 15 hospitals. She previously served as OB/GYN Department Chair at Houston Methodist Hospital equipping her with skills to build a framework of collaboration, lead comprehensive safety initiatives and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
For more than a decade, Dr. Metcalf served in the U.S. Air Force, obtaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. Board certified in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, she spent many years dedicated to education and research to expand and improve women’s healthcare and has received numerous professional awards for her work, becoming a nationally recognized speaker on pelvic health and gynecology in the process.
She attended Lewis and Clark College, earned a medical degree from Mayo Clinic Medical School, completed residency at Texas A&M Health Sciences Center, Scott and White Hospital and fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
We are excited for Dr. Metcalf’s arrival, and we also want to thank Dr. Isaiah Johnson, current chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, for his service in these last few years. Dr. Johnson led the way when we needed him, and the department is better for it.
