Learn from the Presenters at our Recent Climate, Heat and Health Summit
As global temperatures continue to rise, the healthcare industry faces a growing challenge: how to address the impacts of climate change on our communities’ health. We recently hosted a Climate, Heat and Health Summit focused on the intersection of heat and health, addressing how rising temperatures impact patients and healthcare systems.
The summit was held June 22 for healthcare professionals and community members who are interested in the impacts of rising temperatures—particularly in vulnerable populations like the elderly, children and mental health patients.
The conference featured physicians from Carilion Clinic and experts from Virginia Tech and the Virigina Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. It wrapped up with a community panel with partners from Heat Ready, Roanoke!
Our Sustainability department at Carilion, led by Sara Wohlford and Marina Sotelo, is committed to creating a comprehensive environmental sustainability program which will preserve the health of our communities and protect the vitality of current and future generations.
“This conference allowed experts from across the system and state to come together and discuss an issue that impacts all patients,” said Wohlford. “It was inspiring to see the collaboration and discussions, breaking down silos to focus on solutions for those most impacted.”
