CNRV ICU teamwork treats stroke patient from symptom onset to TPA within 65 minutes!

CNRV ICU team recognizes new symptom onset in patient, calls a rapid response/stroke alert, transports to CT, consults teleneurology, and starts administration of IV TPA within 65 minutes!  The patient was transported by life flight to CRMH for immediate intervention within 1-1/2 hours!  Great teamwork, under the guidance of Dr. David Vajanyi, from nurses, aides, CT, teleneurology, and pharmacy to ensure quick treatment of TPA!  Danielle Martin, RN, worked quickly and transported the patient to CT with help of Tristan to obtain STAT imaging that displayed a clot.  Jaylin Crowder, RN, and Jen Hunnings, RN, both worked patiently to keep the parents and patient calm and explained in detail what had happened, what we were doing to diagnose, and what treatments were needed.  The pharmacist rushed the TPA order and hand delivered the medication to the patient's room and ensured the medication was administered quickly.  Sarah Addington worked efficiently and quickly with the transfer center, obtaining transfer paperwork and transport requests to have everything in order and ready for the life flight crew.  Dr. Vajanyi stated that this recognition, treatment, and transfer were "text book" and that everyone knew their jobs and performed them well.  Great job CNRV ICU!  All of you make me proud!  Brenda, RN, CTL
