We are Partnering with Ensemble to Enhance Revenue Cycle Operations

After analysis and careful consideration, we are partnering with Ensemble Health to oversee our revenue cycle operations.  

Around 780 Carilion employees who support revenue cycle operations—all those involved in this move—will be offered an opportunity to become Ensemble associates in comparable roles. This morning, leaders notified the employees who are being asked to transition. 

Revenue cycle operations will transition to Ensemble in September. On the transition date, employees who accept a role with Ensemble will continue their work serving our patients. Patients will not experience any changes and will continue to access Carilion services as usual.

Over the past year, Ensemble helped us review our revenue cycle processes and patient access services. They identified opportunities to enhance our revenue, improve patient experience and empower employees. Our engagement with them focuses on three goals: 

• Increase our revenue: Ensemble understands the challenges of working with insurance companies, and this will increase our ability to be paid for our services.
• Provide new opportunities for employees: Evolving insurance company tactics, technology advances and a constantly changing healthcare environment make it challenging for us to consistently provide staff with the resources they need to optimize revenue effectively. Ensemble’s sole focus on revenue cycle operations will enhance our team’s capabilities and provide new opportunities for employees.
• Position our organization for future opportunities and risks: As the revenue cycle environment evolves, the challenges we face will accelerate. Partnering with Ensemble, with its strong focus on investing in innovation and responding to change, will help us keep pace in this very dynamic environment.
