New Food Pantry Opens in Radiation Oncology Clinic

Proper nutrition is essential during cancer treatment, and improving access to the healthy foods that support healing benefits cancer patients—and supports our mission.

In partnership with Feeding America Southwest Virginia and Blue Ridge Cancer Care, we have taken steps to improve that access by opening the region's first clinic-based food pantry in our Radiation Oncology clinic.

The pantry is quickly becoming a resource for our patients: In the first 10 days of opening, it had already served 16 patients.

How We Support Cancer Patients

The pantry is just one way we are expanding the programs and supports that a growing number of cancer patients will benefit from as we work toward establishing a world-class cancer center. Other initiatives include:

• Nurse navigator program
• Survivor social events
• Health and wellness articles featuring our experts 
• Support groups for patients and caregivers
• Specialty speaker series
• Clinical trials
• Specialty nutrition services
• Genetic counseling

Donations to the pantry are welcome and appreciated, and are processed through Feeding America Southwest Virginia.
