Earth Day 2024

Thank you to everyone who volunteered at and attended our Earth Day tables yesterday! Across the 6 different tabling locations, we handed out 500 tree seedlings, 500 wildflower seed bombs and other fun giveaways.  

At the CRMH Earth Day Fair, we had a challenge to guess the weight of the tabs we were recycling for the Ronald McDonald house. Guesses ranged from 2.5 pounds to over 2,000 pounds. The actual weight was 68.8 pounds, and the closest guess was 69 pounds from Ciara Hicks – congratulations Ciara! You have won a gift card to Ten Thousand Villages online store. Earth Week is not over yet! There are still ways to participate and be entered to win prizes:  

• Sustainability Bingo: By April 28th, complete the Earth Day Bingo card! Mark your card when you complete an item. When you have 5 squares covered in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) you’re done! Send a photo of your completed card and a photo of you completing one of the items to mcsotelo@carilionclinic.org to be entered to win a prize! 

• Piedmont Park Tree Planting: Event is tomorrow and requires RSVP. Only 4 spots left! In partnership with the City of Roanoke Urban Forestry Program at this event attendees will plant trees at Piedmont Park. Register here. 

• Campus Cleanup: Friday, April 26, 12-1 p.m. (CRMH) or anytime. On Friday, April 26, go outside your office (or home office!) and participate in a Carilion-wide clean up. Grab a trash bag and some gloves (either gardening or medical exam gloves) and walk around the area to pick up any trash you find. Send a picture of your efforts to mcsotelo@carilionclinic.org to be entered into a drawing for a prize! If you cannot participate in the specified time frame, send us a picture of your efforts at any other point during the week to enter!
