Celebrate Diversity: Take a New Course!
Each day we interact with patients and colleagues from a variety of cultures, communities and identities. The way we communicate across those differences has a direct impact on the quality of our patient care and our ability to work together.
Creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed, respected and valued is at the heart of what we do every day, but navigating diversity with kindness and respect for all can be challenging in an increasingly complex world.
Our Education and Organizational Development department has created Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) courses to support you in caring for our patients and each other. The sessions are:
- Open to all employees and leaders
- Available in person and virtually
- About three hours long
- Offered on a rotating basis so you can attend sessions in any order or combination
- Accessible through Cornerstone
Courses You Can Take
Foundations of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (SK550)
This course offers an introduction to the concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion and explores how they shape our relationships and interactions with one another—patients and colleagues alike.
Foundations of Cultural Humility (SK551)
This course explores the concept of cultural humility and considers ways to better communicate with—and care for—one another.
Foundations of Unconscious Bias (SK552)
This course explores the concept of unconscious bias—the shortcuts all of our brains naturally take when we encounter others—and strategies to reduce its impact on our lives.
Foundations of Psychological Safety (SK553)
Psychological safety is a shared belief that a team is a safe place for interpersonal risk-taking. Research has shown that psychological safety is the top variable in team performance; a key ingredient of inclusive environments; and the heart of high-performing, innovative teams. This course explores the concept of psychological safety and offers practical steps to increase it in our teams.
Understanding Sex and Gender (SK554)
The concepts of sex and gender are central to our identities and how we interact with the world. This course explores the concepts of sex and gender and provides best practices for communicating across gender diversity.
Generations in the Workplace (SK555)
For the first time in history, five distinct generations are working alongside each other. In this course, we explore generational differences regarding work expectations, communication styles, aspirations and more, and offers strategies for successfully working as part of an inter-generational team.
