Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital earns Energy Star Certification for energy efficiency for the 2nd time!

Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital (CFMH) has earned ENERGY STAR® certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency! The next time you visit, check out the decal on display at the building’s entrance – it represents proven, verified superior energy performance. The building certified with a score of 81, meaning it is more energy efficient than 81% of similar buildings nationwide. This is the 2nd year that CFMH has earned the ENERGY STAR. By meeting these strict standards, CFMH is saving energy, saving money, and helping protect the environment by generating fewer greenhouse gas emissions than typical buildings. 

This achievement would not be possible without the dedication and expertise of the CFMH Engineering & Maintenance team (pictured below). This team works tirelessly to keep energy usage as low as possible. Over the past few years, they have worked on upgrading the building’s lighting to LEDs. With energy costs rising, by keeping energy usage down, this team is not only keeping costs down for the organization but is also reducing the greenhouse gas emissions, which improves the health of the community it serves! In just one year, between 2021 and 2022, this team reduced the building’s emissions from electricity by 7.7%, a decrease of 105 metric tons of carbon dioxide. This is the equivalent to the electricity needed to power 20 homes for one year!
