Investing in Our Future: Nursing Scholarships Are Now Available

Submitted by kesims1 on

Nursing school can be tough, especially when you are thinking about how to pay for it. If you are enrolled in nursing school now, the Carilion Clinic Foundation has scholarships to help.

“We are blessed to have donors who provide these vital scholarships to our employees," said Ralph Alee, vice president for philanthropy. "By supporting their educational goals, we are not just aiding in their professional growth, but also fostering a stronger, more skilled workforce to serve our community.”

Four scholarships are available.

Doris and Lynn Morris Scholarship

This scholarship is designated for those who struggle financially to further their nursing education (up to $3,000 per semester for one year).

Babe and Sydney Louis Hyatt Scholarship

This scholarship is designated for those in nursing who have a sincere interest in becoming an R.N. (up to $2,500 per semester for one year).

Seay Scholarship

Two Seay scholarships of $1,000 each are available to employees seeking their B.S.N. degree.

JoAnn Brinkman Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship will give one deserving applicant $250 toward their education.

If you wish to apply for any of these scholarships, you must be a Carilion Clinic employee for at least six months and currently enrolled in a B.S.N./R.N. program from an accredited university.

The deadline to apply is May 15, 2024.

In 2014, Daniel Terrell was two years into his B.S.N. studies at Jefferson College of Health Sciences (now Radford University Carilion, or RUC) while working full time. But working while going to school was hard, so when Daniel received a scholarship from the Carilion Clinic Foundation, he was able to focus full-time on school and worry less about how he would afford it.

Daniel went on to earn his nurse practitioner degree and doctorate of nursing practice (D.N.P.). Now a team lead in Gastroenterology, he splits his time between administrative tasks, clinical care, precepting students and teaching at RUC.

Learn more about Daniel’s story in the Foundation's 2023 philanthropy report.
