Your retirement marks a major life milestone that deserves to be celebrated. Our retirement recognition program is designed to show our appreciation for your dedication and impact on the organization. Carilion Clinic recognizes employees retiring after five continuous years of employment.

To show our gratitude and thanks, we provide a retirement gift and a retirement celebration or donation to the Carilion Clinic Foundation. Retirees will receive an email at their Carilion Clinic email address 60 days prior to retirement date, directing them to the Limelight platform administered by Awardco to make retirement recognition selections.

Retirement Gift: Retiree’s will be awarded points based on their years of service and the points may be redeemed for any tangible Amazon or BestBuy item. The employee should choose their gift prior to separating employment. The gift will be shipped directly to the employees’ home unless they choose the Carilion rocking chair (must have 25 years or more of service).

Reward Point Amounts by Years of Service:

5-10 years = 100 points

11-20 years = 150 points

21-24 years =250 points

25+years = 250 points or option for rocking chair

Retirement celebration: Retirees wishing to have a retirement celebration will need to make the selection on the Limelight Platform. Once the selection is made, HR will notify the manager. It is the manager’s responsibility or whomever they appoint to plan a retirement celebration. Managers will receive an email from HR with information on the budget and allowable expenses for the retirement celebration. Carilion provides $20 per year of credited service, up to $500, for the retirement celebration.
Donation to the Carilion Clinic Foundation: The Carilion Clinic Foundation establishes and maintains relationships that generate philanthropic support to enhance Carilion Clinic's ability to provide excellence in health care. The focus of the Foundation is to provide resources for Carilion Clinic equipment, programs, and services that otherwise would not be possible. Retirees wishing to donate will make the selection on the Limelight Platform. Carilion provides $20 per year of credited service, up to $500, for a donation to the Foundation.

*Retirement recognition funds may be used entirely for a celebration or entirely for a donation. The funds provided under this policy may not be taken directly by the employee for their personal use or for an additional gift.

Frequently Asked Questions:

I plan to start my pension and continue working. Can I participate in the retirement recognition program?

No, starting a pension while working is not considered retirement. To participate in the retirement recognition program the employee must be separating employment with Carilion Clinic.

I am retiring with 25 years of service and selected the rocking chair for a retirement gift. Will this be shipped to my home address?

No, the rocking chairs are stored in our warehouse in Roanoke and cannot be shipped to the employee’s home. The retiree will receive an email from HR with contact information to the warehouse to arrange pick up.

I would like to have a retirement celebration. Can I have the celebration offsite?

The celebration can be held on Carilion Clinic premises, at a local restaurant or approved location. Retirees will need to consult with their manager about the type of celebration which would be most appreciated.

Can I invite my family to the retirement celebration?

A retirement celebration is an opportunity for coworkers to recognize the retiring employee. Immediate family members also may be invited.

I am retiring and have not received an email regarding the retirement recognition program.

To participate in the retirement recognition program, your manager must update your status in Workday to “retired” and enter the future retirement date. Once the status has been updated, the retiree will receive an email notification from Awardco.

How do I redeem points for a retirement gift?

1. On the Limelight homepage, select “Marketplace” then “Spend Points” from the left navigation menu.

2. Find your item, whether it be an Amazon or BestBuy item.

3. Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm your shipping details and finalize your redemption.

*For retirement gifts, you can redeem points for any tangible Amazon or BestBuy item. Some options shown on the Awardco homepage are not eligible for redemption, such as gift cards, prepaid cards, or Awardco Giving.
