Trauma Care on a Global Scale
Recently, Dr. Joshua Stodghill, one of our Trauma and Critical Care Surgery Physicians, spent time in both Belize and Malawi assisting with medical outreach and trauma education.
On October 27th, Dr. Stodghill was invited to present a lecture entitled “Rural Trauma Topics for the Primary Care Setting” to the Belize Medical and Dental Association. This presentation provided vital trauma education on managing an injured patient and was well received by all who attended.
In November, Dr. Stodghill traveled to Malawi. While in Mzuzu, Malawi, he assisted at the Mzuzu Central Hospital which provides care for over 2 million people in that region caring for surgical, trauma, and ICU patients. He provided formal lectures and continuing education for the staff there on topics including ventilator management, tracheostomy care and management, and CPR and Defibrillation. The staff at the Mzuzu Central Hospital was incredibly appreciative for the assistance and education provided.
Thank you Dr. Stodghill for your commitment to our core Carilion Clinic values and demonstrating the care that a Level 1 Trauma Center provides both locally and to communities globally.
