About the Carilion Clinic Vision Plan

If you enroll in our medical plan, we offer two vision options to ensure you have the coverage that best meets your needs.

  • Basic vision care is included in our medical plan at no additional cost.  
  • You have the option to purchase additional comprehensive vision coverage when you enroll in our medical plan.

  • The basic vision coverage through our medical plan provides one covered routine eye examination per covered person per calendar year. Be sure to present your Aetna medical ID card to the provider at the time of service.
  • When you are enrolled our medical plan, you are also eligible for the Aetna Vision Discount program which provides valuable vision discounts on frames and lenses when you receive care from a participating provider in our medical network. Log on to Aetna Navigator to get more information on the Aetna Vision Discount Program.  
  • To find a participating provider in our medical network, use Aetna’s custom DocFind tool and search under Medical Providers.

Comprehensive Vision Coverage

  • The comprehensive vision plan provides additional benefits:
    • Eyeglass lenses or contacts once every calendar year for a copay or a plan allowance toward the purchase price.  
    • Up to a $130 plan allowance toward the purchase price for frames once every two calendar years.  
    • Access to Aetna’s vision network (called the Aetna Vision Preferred network) in addition to the medical network. The Aetna Vision Preferred network includes local eye care providers and national retailers such as Lenscrafters, Pearle Vision, Target Optical and many more.
  • Print your separate vision insurance card from Aetna website when you enroll in the comprehensive vision coverage plan.
  • To find a participating provider in our vision network, use Aetna’s custom DocFind tool and search under Vision Providers.
