Congratulations to Linda Watson, RN - CRMH 5 West on receiving the Daisy Nursing Ethics in Leadership Award!!

Submitted by laturner on

The DAISY Nursing Ethics Award was created to honor nurse leaders and clinical nurses whose leadership, compassion and clinical practice demonstrate the importance of human values and ethics in nursing.

Linda Watson was chosen overwhelmingly to receive this award by the Nursing Professional Recognition Council for 2023. Please find below the wonderful stories that her co-workers shared about Linda and how she conducts herself ethically and with humanity toward others in her job every day here at CRMH.

"I don’t know where to start with Linda . I am always so happy to see her in the mornings, knowing I’ll get to work with her that day. Being a newer nurse, I have lots of questions. LINDA is always willing to take the time to answer them and seems happy to help me in any way she can. Today, for example, I had a patient who was discharged at the last minute. The patient and her husband were eager to leave, but I was still passing morning meds. Before I even knew what happened, Linda had completed the discharge and I was able to breathe a huge sigh of relief. Linda is always teaching and helping me learn new things. Linda always takes the pressure off, has an encouraging word and is simply a pleasure to work with! Our unit family is certainly fortunate to have Linda!"

"Thank you to Linda, who is always great with new staff and students, for taking the time to come in Friday just to assist a new grad with her competency completion so she would be ready for the end of orientation. Your dedication and commitment to your unit does not go unnoticed!!"

"Linda is consistently unselfish and equal in how she makes decisions for the team. Linda considers all elements of patient assignments for the day. Linda enjoys working with new employees and new nurses to share everything she knows and help them become as skilled as she is herself! She holds nothing back."

"Linda nurses her patients with compassion and respect. Linda holds close to Carilion values and displays commitment by making herself available, being present, taking the time needed, going the extra mile. Linda is an excellent advocate for her co-workers and her patients, hearing the concerns and making appropriate decisions, often collaborating with her own leaders. Linda understands her unit and makes adjustments for patient safety for room placement and nurse assignment. Linda expects the same dedication out of herself that she wants to see in others. I’d be confident in saying that if our profession had more nurses like Linda, we would be in a better place! It is an honor to work with her."

"Linda is one of the best nurses I know. She is so kindhearted, caring, and gentle and an incredible asset to our team. Linda always wants and thinks about what is best for our patients, our staff, and our unit. Patient safety is always a top priority for Linda, and she goes above and beyond to make sure our patients are taken care of. She is never afraid to stand up for what’s right for our patients and our staff. Linda never has a negative attitude and always holds her composure even through the toughest times. Linda deserves so much. She is such a pure and loving soul, and I wish we had more nurses like her."

And, finally.....

"Linda is a diamond! She really shines and it shows at the bedside with her patients and how she manages the staff. She is always willing to help regardless of her workload and she does it with a smile on her face. Every patient she takes care of want her back because they know she gives each of them 100% of her attention and advocates for them. She truly is someone that I personally look forward to seeing, to work and strive to be like!"
