Carilion Clinic Metabolic & Weight Loss Center Adds Additional Accreditation

In addition to being listed as a national Center of Excellence by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, The Carilion Clinic Metabolic & Weight Loss Center has been awarded an additional recognition as a Specialty Care Program and awarded Blue Distinction Accreditation by Blue Cross and Blue Shield as of January 1, 2018.

The Blue Distinction Specialty Care Program is a national designation program recognizing healthcare facilities that demonstrate expertise in delivering quality specialty care safely, effectively and cost-efficiently in the field of bariatric surgery. 

The value of this designation provides differentiation in our local community as well as nationally, enhances awareness and preference for both consumers and referring physicians, recognition among employers to offer benefits to cover these services, and benchmark performance against peer centers to provide insight on our program’s performance.

A special WOW of appreciation goes to the Bariatric Coordinator of the program Laurie Martin, BSN, CBN who gathered the data and submitted the application on our behalf. We would also like to thank the entire Bariatric Team for their continued commitment in providing exemplary quality care for our patient population!
