Wear Orange Day - June 5, 2026!

To support our Violent Injury Recovery and Support (VIRS) Program, and raise awareness for gun violence and safety, please wear orange on Friday June 5th.

Orange has a long-standing association with gun violence prevention and safety, as it is the color hunters wear to make themselves visible and protect one another. By wearing orange, we stand together in support of Gun Violence Survivors and raise awareness for this critical issue while promoting safety for all populations. Here at CRMH and in our region, we have seen a steady increase in both violence and firearm related injuries, with assaults being our 3rd most common mechanism of injury (MOI) and gunshot wounds (GSWs) making up 5% of all patients seen and increasing.

Our VIRS Program, a hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP), was launched in 2023 and is dedicated to helping patients, aged 10 years and older, seen at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, who have experienced an intentional violent injury including gunshot wounds, stabbing, or assault. This free program is a voluntary Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP) that provides comprehensive case management services designed to promote physical and emotional recovery for those who are injured. Our goal is to combine the efforts of our medical staff with trusted community partners to ensure that those affected receive the support, treatment, and resources they need to heal and to create positive changes in their lives.
