Virtual Care Operations August Great Catch
Virtual Care Operations recently launched a department-level "great catch" initiative that emulates the program of the same name pioneered by CAPS but exceeds the established standards in certain ways. Events that meet these criteria will be identified by the CTaC Quality Improvement Facilitator and forwarded to the Virtual Care leadership team for review and award on a monthly basis. The recipient(s) will be recognized in the monthly staff meeting and here on the WOW Wall as well as presented with a certificate of achievement.
We are pleased to name Bowie Jordan, VMT I, as the recipient of the inaugural Virtual Care Operations Great Catch award. On August 17, a patient on TeleSitting was observed sitting on the side of the hospital bed requesting toileting assistance. The patient had a history of impulsiveness and falls. Inpatient nursing was unable to respond as quickly as usual due to multiple simultaneous needs, so over the next 24 minutes Bowie engaged in near continuous conversation with the patient and used diversion and distraction techniques in an attempt to soothe and calm her. Bowie was able to accomplish the goal of keeping the patient safe while still observing other patients until nursing was able to arrive. Huge shout out to Bowie for using creativity and maintaining focus over such a long period of time!
