Saving Lives

I would like to give a huge shout out to our wonderful director of Occupational Health, Sara Hatman. On Wednesday, July 8, our front desk staff were alerted that there was an unresponsive female in the back of a transport vehicle that had pulled over in front of Community Hospital asking for help. Sara recognized the signs of opioid overdose and administered narcan while the rest of the staff began CPR. This is not the first time that Sara has administered narcan and likely saved a life. Unfortunately, the parking lot of Community has become a hot spot for this type of issue, and I know of at least two other times that she has rendered lifesaving aide. While we cannot always control the circumstances or our environment, we can always control our response, and I am so proud that I work with team (most of whom have no experience in emergency medicine) who are always quick to respond when there is an emergency. Our director is one of a kind and I am proud to call her boss! In addition, our wonderful neighbors at Employee Health and Wound Care are just as quick to help. Huge thank you to them as well! Buy these people a Chick-fil-a lunch! They deserve it!
