Ripples at CGCH
The Ripple Effect was started in 2019 by the CGCH Patient Experience Committee. Boxes in each department throughout the hospital are available with slips of paper for people to share when they see their co-workers making a difference in our community. Each month the Patient Experience Team members bring these boxes to their monthly meeting to be shared as examples of the little ways people are making a BIG difference here at CGCH. These are the Ripples from the January Patient Experience Meeting.
Kourtney Williams, Nursing Supervision: always proficient in her job, regardless of how busy the hospital is she always knows what’s going on throughout
Kelli Nista, Surgical Services: volunteered and assisted with Women’s Health Day, escorted females to and from screening areas, set up for breakfast, assisted with clean up and helped with registration. The participated were all very complimentary of Kelli’s kindness. The event would have experienced several hiccups if Kelli had not been present to pick up the slack and offer her assistance.
Chris Stephens, Radiology: assisted on a very busy day by stocking linens for his co-worker in Mammo
Loretta Mills, Housekeeping: took the time to help with a patient in CT
Sue and TT, Housekeeping: stayed over one night to get a room cleaned for a patient because there was only one open bed
Melinda Crutchfield, Housekeeping: went above and beyond after a blood bank accident and spill
Kimberly Robertson, Emergency Dept: came in early to help the staff in the OR prior to working her scheduled shift in the ED
Melissa Mathena, Surgical Services: has jumped right in with a smile on her face since her first day
Christina Salazar, Surgical Services: came in to help the department when they were short staffed, came to the ED and helped on a very busy day
Katie Delp, Emergency Dept: arranged for a guardian to get a car seat in an emergency, gave a grandparent money to get medicine and clothing for his grandchild during an emergency
Ann Jimenez, Emergency Dept: helped get an earlier appointment for patient through perseverance
Danielle Ellis, Medical Office Staff: arranged for medications to be moved to the Pharmacy during a power outage in order to prevent spoilage
Pediatric Team, Rehab: preparing their Christmas Party for the special needs children they serve to help them enjoy a party just for them
Teri Farley, Lab: went above and beyond with an elderly patient who called the lab by mistake and got her to the correct department
Jake Thornton, Radiology: came to the ED and helped start IVs and assisted with patients without being asked, also went out in the cold and looked for a patient’s dropped keys
Kim Elliott, Pharmacy: volunteered to do Heavy IV Room cleaning for several months during 2019
Amanda Terry, Pharmacy: offered to pick up prescriptions for a patient to facilitate discharge a day earlier than anticipated, spent a lot of time with a patient to ensure prior authorization was obtained allowing them to obtain lifesaving medication that was cost prohibitive to her otherwise
Vickie Miller, Pharmacy: carefully reviewing inventory in Pharmacy for opportunities to save costs, decrease inventory and be a good steward of Carilion’s finances
