Recognizing our Trauma Registry Professionals
Trauma Registry Professionals Day
Behind every trauma activation, every performance improvement initiative, and every verified trauma center is a group of professionals whose work often goes unseen – our Trauma Registry Professionals.
Trauma registrars are vital members of our trauma team, responsible for capturing the full story of each patient we serve. Through detailed abstraction of medical records, emergency care, operative reports, and diagnostics, they ensure that every trauma case is accurately documented and represented. This work supports reporting at the hospital, state, and national levels and is essential for maintaining trauma center designation and American College of Surgeons (ACS) verification.
Their role in data management and quality assurance goes far beyond simple documentation. Through validation, coding, and collaboration with clinical teams, they ensure accuracy and help identify trends, uncover opportunities for improvement, and drive performance improvement initiatives that directly impact patient care.
What makes our team especially unique is the experience they bring to this role. Many of our registrars have EMS backgrounds, offering a clinical lens that strengthens the work they do every day. In addition to their registry responsibilities, they contribute across our system through involvement in organ donation initiatives, suicide prevention efforts, outreach, and injury prevention education—extending their impact far beyond the registry.
Each year, the American Trauma Society (ATS) recognizes Trauma Registry Professionals for their essential role in advancing trauma care. Through accurate data collection, thoughtful analysis, and unwavering attention to detail, they help strengthen trauma systems, inform prevention strategies, and improve outcomes across the continuum of care.
We are incredibly proud of and grateful for our trauma registrars. Your work matters more than words can capture, and the care we provide would not be the same without you.
