Quick Actions of Carilion Anesthesia Technician Saves a Police Officer's Life
A routine grocery shopping trip to the Rocky Mount Food Lion on December 21, 2021 by Shannika Hubbard turned out to be a bit more exciting than she expected. Shannika, the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Anesthesia Technician Supervisor, came around the corner of an aisle and found an unresponsive man on the floor with his children beside him. The man, a Rocky Mount police officer, was turning blue. Shannika quickly sprung into action, performing CPR on the man until the rescue squad arrived. Another woman helped by reassuring his children. Shannika's quick response and skilled actions contributed to the successful resuscitation of the officer. She was recognized by the Rocky Mount town council at their May 9th meeting with a plaque and they honored her with "Shannika Hubbard Day". We are all so proud of Shannika for her lifesaving actions and Courage!!!
