Outstanding Preceptor Award
On February 8th, The Nursing Center of Excellence awarded the Outstanding Preceptor Award to Ann Ikunyua, RN on 8SICU. Leaders from the Nursing Center of Excellence presented her with the award alongside her team members and unit leaders. Adejoke (Jay) Moronkola, RN who submitted the nomination said that Ann "is a great nurse that has freely shared her wealth of knowledge with me. She is knowledgeable and her eagerness to learn more is exceptional. Sometimes I wonder how someone so intelligent and versatile seeks more knowledge! Well, I figured life is an institution where we never stop learning. On several occasions Ann has corrected me in love and helped me build my confidence in the ICU, she creates an Avenue to learn for me. If I haven’t seen a procedure or performed a skill before. Ann would reach out to her other colleagues to know what new procedures/skills they are performing and she ensures they give me an opportunity to be involved in it. That alone challenged me to always seek for new opportunities. On several occasions, I have called Ann outside of work days to seek clarity and help on anything I need to understand about medications titration and disposal, procedures and skills. She has also shared resources that being instrumental to my growth and becoming a better nurse. She responds to me in a timely and professional manner. Despite her role as my preceptor(RN), she will help me as a nurse aid on days when I had tasking patients and do it with utmost joy. Ann has not only proven to be a great preceptor, she has also taken the role of a protector several times and has protected me from making mistakes, she is an educator that has taught me beyond the four walls of the hospital. Ann’s patient care, attention to details and dedication to her job is top-notch. She doesn’t cut corners or bend rules. These things have shaped me to be a better nurse. Thank you Ann for you exceptional dedication to healthcare. You’re more than a preceptor, you’re a role model and friend." Ann's commitment and compassion toward not only her patients, but also to her Carilion Clinic family, deserves to be recognized and celebrated. Congratulations!
