Outstanding Preceptor Award

On February 8th, The Nursing Center of Excellence awarded the Outstanding Preceptor Award to Amanda Sanders, RN on 8SICU.  Leaders from the Nursing Center of Excellence presented her with the award alongside her team members and unit leaders. Arman Darbani, RN - Transition to Practice Facilitator, who submitted the nomination said that Amanda "recently joined the Carilion team and I want to say that we are so lucky she decided to do so. She is an excellent nurse who is passionate and dedicated towards providing an excellent care for her patients. Fortunately, she has agreed to orient new staff on the floor and I believe her orientees are also very fortunate to have her as the preceptor. I would like to start by pointing out that she is caring and very approachable for everyone, especially her orinetee. She has established a collegiate and friendship relationship with her orientee and this ensures that they come to her with questions and concerns. She actively seeks out opportunities to expose orientees to novel experiences and validates their competencies per policy. She asks other nurses to inform her of the new and interesting practice opportunities to ensure orientees are getting an optimal orientation experience. She meticulously follows the married-state approach to ensure that the safety of patient and the orientee is guarded. She actively follows orientee's development plan to ensure that each step is carefully followed and ensures that milestones are met prior to progressing to the next level of orientation. Her dedication to patient care as well as proficiency has made her one of the team leaders on the unit and, inevitably, a role model for new staff. Her feedback forms are concrete, constructive, and detailed and this makes any needed practice adjustment a much smoother for the orientee. Again, Carilion is fortunate to have Amanda as a team member.   Amanda's commitment and compassion toward not only her patients, but also to her Carilion Clinic family, deserves to be recognized and celebrated.  Congratulations!
