8 MTN ICU - Huge shoutout to Xira for identifying an issue with our eyewash station this week! Not only did she take the initiative to fix the problem, but she also developed a plan to help prevent it from happening again. Thank you for your proactive approach and commitment to keeping our unit safe and running smoothly!
4 CST ICU - CSICU often has some challenging moments especially with high acuity patients. On June 6th during the evening shift change we had a patient who cardiac arrested. Of course it was many hands on deck in the room with the code but the rest of the unit which had other acute situations was managed well. With no complaints dayshift stayed until night shift was in a more comfortable position. For the patient who coded, we place on ECMO which meant shuffling of assignments had to take place. Once again, no complaints from anyone and thankfully Lora Bess was able to shuffle staffing around to send more help to us. The CSOR team was here ... sorry do not have specific names except Dr Joseph, Dr Cross
(anesthesia), and Rachel Mills, CCP. The patient survived due to the quick actions taken that night by the whole team including respiratory, (Sarah M who was assigned to a different unit, Tierra, and Collin), ACPs (Jovi, Shawn, Ronda, and Jake), and last but not least, our RNs who all went above and beyond. Some dayshift did not leave until after 9pm. I have often said that I am proud of where I work because of who I work with. Dayshift you are AMAZING and THANK You for you support that night... we know you did not have to stay as late as you did, Melody, Ally, Rebekah, Leigha, Aysha. And night shift, you were definitely getting things done even prior to being asked you Bethany, Kyle, Cindy (night shift charge who was on top of managing the unit as a whole), and Kyndra (assigned to the patient that coded who remained calm and proactive). I had the privilege of being ECMO specialist that night with very few worries because I knew my team was strong. #ICUSTRONG #CSICUSTRONG
10 MTN ICU - Shoutout to 10M! They increased every bundle compliance for the ICU Liberation Bundle last week! Way to work hard and let your documentation prove the efforts you are making.
9 MTN ICU - I would like to share an excellent exemplar for ICU Liberation ... The patient in 975 today was under the care of Carolyn Arnold RN, and was currently receiving PT/OT with Jennifer Divers PT and Caylin Smith OT, when attempted ICU liberation round. Carolyn had already done the SAT, sedation remained off, and the patient was able to sit edge of bed and briefly stand before they pivoted to a chair. THIS IS PROACTIVE PATIENT CARE! I am so proud of the work they are doing and the improvement we are seeing. EXCELLENT work to this team. I look forward to taking the next step to creating our own "awake and walking" ICU!
9 SICU - After a code, Sara took the time to teach some of our nurses about the Zoll and the use of end tidal CO2 after intubation! Sara is one of our more experienced nurses and in CRNA school, so it was fantastic to see her teaching her newer coworkers!
PICU - Dr. Paulsen was the attending covering the night we had a patient rapidly deteriorate, requiring intubation and unexpected cardiac arrest. During this event, she remained calm and supportive to all staff present in the room, while also commanding attention and acknowledging herself as the leader. She made is clear to everyone what the next steps were, and also created an environment in which everyone's thoughts could be shared. I am so grateful to work alongside a physician as wonderful as her! We are lucky to have her on our team!
NICU - Asheigh Ratcliff RN adjusted her 710g HFJV patient’s nest to ensure their head of bed is elevated and hips are positioned below lungs to help prevent VAP.
