Jane Thomas Retires!

"It's Been Real!!" - as Jane says good bye.

When Jane Thomas was called into nursing 35 years ago, she had no idea what nursing life had in store for her. Upon her retirement today, however, Jane could write a best seller! The laughter, the tears and the sleepless nights are some of the experiences that Jane shares as part of her nursing journey. Jane also talks about an occasional uplifting hug from a patient, an encouraging word from a peer, and the mysteries of a life born and a life lost. Mostly, and with gratitude, Jane talks about all the staff with whom she has worked, the kind colleagues throughout her path, and the masterly managers for whom she has worked over the years.  Finally, Jane sings praises to the manager who hired her into Carilion almost 26 years ago! ‘He taught me almost everything cardiology & cardiac surgery and how to lead & manage,’ Jane recalls. To this manager, and to all those who have shaped Jane’s journey, we will forever be grateful.
We are also grateful to you, Jane, for your years of service in the nursing profession and with us at Carilion Clinic. Through the years- you have demonstrated servant leadership, you have managed teams with your heart, and you have extended love and concern to everyone that you meet. Many nurses and nursing staff will always remember your kind words, your avid advocacy, and your unwavering caring compassion. You have been an inspiration to so many and your mentorship will resonate with us forever. For every nursing staff that you have taught, mentored and nurtured, we thank you ever so much. On behalf of our team on 7S PCU; the former 9S Cardiac Surgery PCU; and the Cardio-Vascular Institute (CVI) at large, Well Done! You have made your mark and we all too can hear the beach bells ringing for you! Congratulations, Jane Thomas.
For what you have given us all over the years, I can only be so happy for you. I pray that your retirement will be everything that you ever imagined. May the Lord bless you and keep you; may His face shine upon you; may He be gracious unto you & give you peace (Num.6:24-26)! Amen.
Evelyn Rubongoya, 7S PCU Unit Director.
