Great collaborative effort to enhance our health IT and analytics work!

Using open-source applications is a growing trend in the IT industry. Among these applications, R studio has cemented its place as a popular and powerful solution for data science and statistical analysis that comes with no cost. Almost every application in the analytics industry from databases to visualization tools have integrated R into their platform.

To increase the availability of this solution across Carilion, Health Analytics Team implemented a server-based solution of R Studio. This implementation allows wide-spread use of the software for different analytics teams and allows significant cost saving across the organization.  It also enables data scientists to preserve data integrity and security while working off-site.

Our statistician, Hunter Sharp, in collaboration with the related teams at TSG, specifically Joe Dydula, Tim Bowman, Michael Litz, and Tanya Kodenski played a pivotal role in this implementation by preparing the platform and enhancing the security of the system through Active Directory Login.

We worked closely with our Chief Information Security Officer, Rob Perry, to design this model. It  allows users to access this data science and analytics platform with the same account that they use to login to their computers and eliminate the need for remembering secondary login credentials.

We greatly appreciate this responsive and collaborative effort that adds significant value to our organization.
