Great Catch Celebration

On September 30th, the department for Clinical Advancement and Patient Safety hosted a Great Catch Celebration at CRMH.

Because of your hard work, diligence, and courage, we exceeded our goal of 5,000 Great Catch reports during FY19.  As an organization, it is important for employees to recognize and report these Great Catches and for the organization to take action to prevent harm to our patients, our employees, or visitors.

This celebration highlighted the reason why reporting Great Catches, Near Misses, and Unsafe Conditions matters and how they have a large impact of the care delivered at Carilion.

• Departmental Quality Teams
• Clinical Risk Management
• Patient Advocacy
• The TRUST Team
• Clinical Advancement and Patient Safety's Patient Safety Specialists
• Human Factors
• Quality Improvement Facilitators
• Employee Health
• Flu Vaccines
• Cake and refreshments
• and other opportunities to see how your event reports entered into SafeWatch or 7-SAFE are addressed.

For FY2020, we have increased the Great Catch Goal! 

In order to meet this goal and improve patient safety we need you to:

• Report unsafe situations or near misses in SafeWatch or by dialing 540-981-7233 (7-SAFE).
• Speak up, you can report anonymously if needed.
• Remember, something very minor and seemingly harmless can have a huge impact, Report it!
• If you unsure if someone else has reported the situation, it is okay to go ahead and report it again.
