Gayle Campbell--Outstanding Preceptor Award

Submitted by csensabaugh on

Congratulations to Gayle Campbell, RN in the CRMH Emergency Department, on winning an Outstanding Preceptor Award! Members of the Nursing Center of Excellence along with NPIFs and Transition to Nursing Practice presented the award to Gayle beside her unit leadership and ED nursing team.

Gayle's nomination read:

"Gayle Campbell is very educated on all nursing knowledge especially when it comes to high acuity patients. I have seen her jump right in to help her colleagues without being asked to and then takes the time to explain to me exactly what was going on afterwards. She continuously asks if there is any questions I have and you can tell she cares about my education and experience. She gives me multiple opportunities to watch skills that I may not be familiar with or something that she thinks I could learn from. I have learned more from her in my first 3 shifts of practicum then I learned in a whole semester of clinicals. There was a time when she could tell I was not feeling too confident in myself and she took the time to sit there and talk to me, to reassure me and build up my confidence. Not only was she able to recognize that I was having doubtful feelings of myself in that moment, but she was also able to subside those feelings and connect with me, making me feel seen and heard. It showed that she actually cared about me, my mental health, and my current headspace. She is a natural born leader and is showing me how to become a leader myself.  A leader is someone who voluntarily gives others power, and that is what she does to me and her other team members. As a nursing student it is hard to find a preceptor that actually makes you feel welcomed, like they want you there and that they want to teach you. I was blessed to be placed with someone who has so much knowledge and experience in this specialty of nursing. I am excited to see what I can continue to learn from her during my practicum. I am confident that after my practicum that I will be able to handle anything that is thrown my way, that is the level of confidence and education that she provides to me."

Thank you, Gayle, for your compassion for teaching others!
