For the Love of Service: Carole & Roger Foutz

Volunteer Services is proud to recognize Carole & Roger Foutz for their extraordinary dedication to Carilion Clinic and the patients, families, and staff we serve. 

Over the past 8 years, Carole and Roger have each contributed over 1,000 hours of volunteer service at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. They are especially committed members of our Emergency Department Volunteer Program, where they serve every Monday on the unit and are engaged members of our ED Advisory Council. Recently, Roger brought "You Make a Difference" pins to share with volunteers and staff members, knowing that a small reminder of our shared mission can make a big difference on hard days.

Their impact does not go unnoticed. Dr. Habib Samady, Director of Carilion's Cardiovascular Institute, ran into Carole & Roger on an elevator recently and immediately felt the positive energy they bring to every shift. He shared, "They were bright eyed, positive, and mission-driven...they want to give back. What a wonderful and inspiring couple. They made my day." That impression reflects exactly who they are in every interaction. 

This year, Carole and Roger were also recognized at our annual Volunteer Gala as part of the Emergency Department Volunteer Team being named our Volunteer Program of the Year. Their commitment, compassion, and dedication helped make this recognition possible. Week after week, they show up eager to serve, bringing warmth, positivity, and a deep sense of purpose to the ED waiting room. They truly embody the spirit of Carilion's mission!
