Camp Series for Grieving Youth

Submitted by akbrelyn on

Camp Treehouse is a free day-camp for kids ages 6-18, who have lost a loved one and are working to process their grief. The Center for Grief and Healing’s arts-themed camp series explores healing self-expression through art, dance, music, imagery and creative writing.

The first camp was held last month at the RUC campus. Nearly 30 children were eager to talk about their loss, share similar experiences, honor their loved one and make new friends. Licensed counselors led groups to explore artistic expression and share their creations with parents and other campers at the closing ceremony.

Thanks to all of the volunteers and staff who helped to make the camp a success! Additional camps will be held April 22 and June 17. If you are interested in volunteering for either camp, contact Paula Wolfteich, Ph.D., director, at 540-853-0007 or pmwolfteich@carilionclinic.org.
