Advocating for a patient

Katelyn Doxsee, Social Worker for Carilion Clinic Hospice in the NRV, went above and beyond for a patient recently to help get the patient reconnected with family and eventually transitioned to a facility that could provide the care the patient needed. 

Katelyn spent countless hours educating herself about guardianship, financial aspects of this patient's life that are not typical, the facility he was in, his disease and his needs, his family...She constantly put the patient first and coordinated conversations between his facility, his family, and other parties involved in providing for this patient. Her goal was always to give the patient the best care possible. She facilitated video calls with his family whom he hadn't seen or connected with in a long time. 

Due to Katelyn's efforts, this patient is going to be moved to a facility that is equipped to manage his end-of-life needs and physically near his family.
