Carilion Sustainability Leadership Award
Award Overview
Reducing Carilion Clinic's environmental impact is not something that is achieved just by the work of the Sustainability department. Rather, it is the outcome of the dedication to and collaboration among Carilion employees from the across the organization, working to conserve energy and water, reduce waste, avoid emissions, and eliminate chemicals of concern within their daily responsibilities and departments.
Each year, applications are accepted for Carilion's Sustainability Leadership Award (previously Sustainability Hero Award). These awards recognize and honor employees who:
- Champion sustainability within their department/team through development of a culture of sustainability
- Envision, innovate and execute sustainability-related projects
- Serve as leaders in advancing sustainability work (both internally and externally)
- Complete research projects aligned with Carilion's sustainability initiatives
Eligibility Criteria
- Be a current Carilion Clinic employee (or a team comprised of current employees)
- Not have received an award in previous years for the submitted work
application process
- Applications will open in January and remain open through March 15, 2026.
- There is one application for individual-level awards, and one application for team awards.
- Individuals/teams can nominate themselves, or others can nominate them.
- All applications will be reviewed by the Sustainability department and a panel of judges, made up of the previous year's award winners.
Award presentation
Award winners will receive:
- A framed certificate signed by senior leadership
- Recognition in a Wow Wall post (and subsequent social media posts)
- Presentation of award and gift basket (first place award winners only) with leadership and photo
- Opportunity to present at the November Sustainability Champions Committee Meeting
