Medical Excellence Awards

These awards recognize individual physicians and advanced practice providers who demonstrate dedication and exceptional care to patients, families, staff and fellow providers. Awards are given in three categories—one for physicians, podiatrists, dentists and oral surgeons; one for advanced practice providers; and one for residents or fellows. Any Carilion employee or volunteer can nominate someone for a Medical Excellence Award. Please note that groups of clinicians are not eligible to win this award.

Award Categories

• Award for Physicians, Podiatrists, Dentists and Oral Surgeons: any active Carilion Clinic physician, podiatrist, dentist or oral surgeon is eligible.
• Award for Advanced Practice Providers: any active Carilion Clinic advanced practice provider is eligible.
• Award for Residents or Fellows: any resident or fellow training at a Carilion Clinic hospital is eligible.

Award Information

The criteria for this award include:

• Demonstrates excellent patient safety and good citizenship on the medical staff
• Exemplifies clinical quality by delivering safe and appropriate care with good patient outcomes
• Demonstrates professionalism, collegiality, and active participation in leadership on the medical staff
• Displays qualities of integrity, honesty, sound character, and is respectful to staff and colleagues
• This is an individual we would have care for us and our family members
