Article Critique Submission Guidelines
A summary (750 words) of a single article; outlining the topic, interventions and results or outcomes. Follow the guidelines below.
- Citation for article (author, date, title, journal, page numbers)
- Overall study question (with a brief background if necessary)
- The methods used to answer the question (what was done to the subjects)
Critique
1. General information
- Was the design appropriate to answer the study question and clearly identified?
- Was the sample size was adequate (how did authors determine sample size)?
- What was the intervention, instruments/measures used? Were these appropriate?
- What were the outcomes of the study?
- Are the results clinically significant? Are the results relevant to practice?
2. Conclusions
- How can the results be applied to my patient care
- Will the results help me in caring for my patients?
3. Overall Assessment
- Take-home message—how (or not) were the findings of this study relevant to practice?
- What would you like your colleagues to know from this article?
- Would you recommend this article to your colleagues?
