Work from Home Tips: How Your Remote Desktop Has Changed
Do you work remotely, or do you sometimes need to access Carilion apps from home? The Apps portal allows you to securely launch Carilion-specific applications such as Epic and My Total Access, and it provides you with a virtual desktop with access to Microsoft Office, your P: and S: drives and email. Using the Apps portal, you can access these sites from any internet-connected computer.
Beginning Jan. 31, you'll see a new and improved desktop on the Apps portal!
What's New: Updated Remote Desktop
- The updated desktop on the Apps portal provides an experience like the standard Carilion internal desktop. The new desktop includes access to shared files, Carilion email, Microsoft Teams and most Carilion applications.
- When you use the new desktop, your user profile settings and files will be saved and available from one session to the next—just like the desktop when you are on the network in one of our facilities.
- If you are inactive for 30 minutes after using the remote desktop, your session will disconnect, but you will be able to reconnect to the same session for 18 hours.
How To Connect to the Remote Desktop
- First, be sure you are enrolled with Imprivata ID for multi-factor authentication. You can find job aids for installing and using Imprivata ID on the TSG hub.
- Log in to the Apps portal using your AD username and password. If you need help, a job aid is available here.
- Click on the Carilion Clinic Desktop—NEW icon (shown in the photo below). On Feb. 13, this icon will be renamed Carilion Clinic Desktop. On Feb. 27, the old icon will be removed.
- From the remote desktop, you can access your shared drives and other Carilion apps.
