Weather Related Parking and Shuttle Updates

CMC Parking and Shuttles:

Due to snow and ice accumulation, all parking deck rooftops will remain closed until further notice. We’ve received several questions about why parking deck rooftops can’t be plowed or treated during snow and ice events. There are important safety and structural reasons for this. Parking deck rooftops are not treated or mechanically cleared because pushing snow to one side of a garage roof can create uneven weight and increase the risk of damage. In addition, salt and other ice-melting chemicals can deteriorate concrete and reinforcement materials over time. Parking, Facility and Guest Services teams will provide an update when garage rooftops reopen, but until then, the following changes and shuttles remain in place:

Crystal Spring Medical Office Building (CSMOB): 

• This week, the garage will be reserved for patient parking only (with the exception of the basement level). 
• Employees should not park in the CSMOB garage during this time and will be directed to exit if attempting to enter. 
• We recommend employees to park at the Riverside garage and return on the Riverside-Crystal Spring MOB express shuttle or contact the On-call shuttle. Shuttle information is below.

Employee Parking and Shuttle Service: 

Employees are asked to park at the Riverside garage, which tends to have more readily available parking. Shuttle services will be available Monday - Friday between Roanoke locations:

• Loop shuttle: 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., every 15 minutes between CRMH, Crystal Spring MOB, ION, & Riverside Campus.
  • Campus shuttle services provide transportation between the Riverside garage (1st floor), CRMH, and Crystal Springs MOB. If you park at the Riverside garage, please proceed to Level G and wait near the main entrances closest to the railroad tracks. Because of its size, the shuttle can only pick up passengers just outside those entrances.
• On-call shuttle: 6:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. while roof decks are closed.
  • The Carilion Campus On-call Shuttle is available for employees & patients that need transportation among Carilion facilities (while roof decks are closed), which can be requested through any Guest Services member or (540) 529-1220.
• Riverside garage to Crystal Spring MOB Express shuttle 7:30am-9:00am & 4:00pm-5:30pm
  • The morning shuttle service will begin at the Riverside garage, making stops on level G by each elevator bank. In the late afternoon, the shuttle will begin from the Crystal Spring MOB front entrance. For shuttle services outside these hours, employees can call the On-call shuttle at (540) 529-1220 between 6:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.
