Volunteers Needed for Blacksburg Recycling Event

A drive-through electronics recycling event will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to noon at 901 Plantation Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060. We need volunteers! 

Volunteer opportunity

Help make a difference by volunteering at our upcoming electronics recycling event. Volunteers can sign up for 2-hour shifts to assist with collection, traffic flow and logistics—no experience needed. We hear often from our friends and colleagues in the western region that they would like another event and we want to answer that call. Volunteers who participate in Personify Health will receive a 200-point rewards voucher for completing a two-hour shift.

Every device recycled and every volunteer makes an impact. Improperly disposing of electronic waste can contaminate soil, air and water, leading to health concerns such as cancer.

“Last time we were in Blacksburg, we collected approximately 13,714 pounds of electronics from 186 cars,” said Marina Sotelo, sustainability manager. “This amounted to $1,628 raised for the cancer center, and we’re excited to raise funds again while giving our communities a safe way to dispose of their electronics.”

All proceeds from recycled materials will help fund bike parking areas at Carilion to encourage environmentally conscious commuting.
