Carilion Children’s—which is our local Children’s Miracle Network hospital—and the Life Ring Foundation are partnering to expand pediatric hematology and oncology care in Southwest Virginia.

In 2023, the Life Ring Foundation pledged $2 million to our Cancer Center Fund to support pediatric hematology and oncology. Through the Fighting Kids Cancer campaign, the Life Ring Foundation recently exceeded the initial $2 million commitment with its latest $1.25 million gift and has doubled its pledge to $4 million.

These funds will immediately support 7 new clinical and support positions, help to improve care coordination, and help expand resources for children and families receiving treatment close to home. This investment allows Carilion Children’s to enhance patient support services, provide more personalized care, and strengthen programs that help families navigate the challenges of pediatric cancer and blood disorders.

Life Ring’s pledge also aligns with our long-term vision for pediatric oncology care when the Carilion Taubman Cancer Center opens in 2028, ensuring that children in Southwest Virginia can access specialized, compassionate care without needing to travel out of state.

The Life Ring Foundation doubled its pledge to $4 million to expand pediatric cancer care.

The funds will support 7 new clinical and support positions and help enhance care for local families.
