Road Closures and Detours in Roanoke This Weekend

Make sure to give yourself extra time if you'll be heading to CRMH this weekend. The Blue Ridge Marathon is taking place this Saturday, April 20.

Following are road closures, detours and parking information that may affect your route to CRMH and other Roanoke-area facilities over the weekend. The closures are also marked in this Waze link.

Road Closures

Unless otherwise indicated, the entire road is closed to vehicular traffic for the times listed. If only a portion of the road is closed/open, it will be indicated along with the direction of travel.

Marathon Map

Saturday (April 20, 2024):

  • Jefferson St. (from Church Ave. to Franklin Road): 5:30-8:30 a.m.
  • Jefferson St. (from Franklin Road to Elm Ave.): 5:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Jefferson St. (from Elm to Walnut): 7:15-8:30 a.m.
  • Franklin Road (2nd St. to Jefferson St.): 5:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Franklin Road (Jefferson to Williamson Road): 5:30-8:30 a.m.
  • Walnut Ave. (from Jefferson to JB Fishburn Parkway): all lanes closed 7-8:30 a.m.; Westbound lanes open at 8:30 a.m.; Eastbound lanes from Hamilton Terrace to JB Fishburn Parkway open at 8:30 a.m.; Eastbound Walnut Avenue Bridge opens at approximately 10 a.m.
  • JB Fishburn Parkway (road up to Star): 7:30-11:30 a.m. (or when last runner clears the road)
  • Mill Mountain Parkway: 7-11:30 a.m. (or when last runner clears the road)
  • Roanoke Mountain Loop Road: 7-11:30 a.m.
  • Wiley Drive (next to Rivers Edge Sports Complex): 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Luck Ave. (eastbound from 6th St. to 1st St.): 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.
  • Bullitt Ave. (eastbound lane from 1st St. to Jefferson St.): 5 a.m.- 4 p.m.
  • Elm Ave. (1st St. to Williamson Road): 7-8:15 a.m.
  • Laurel St. (southbound lane, Riverland Road to Walnut Ave.): 7 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
  • Ivy St. (northbound lane, Camilla to Walnut Ave.): 7 a.m.- 12:15 p.m.
  • Camilla St. (eastbound lane, Ivy St. to Sylvan Ave.): 7 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
  • Peakwood Drive (the “uphill” lane, entire length): 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • West Ridge Road (the “downhill” lane, Peakwood Dr. to Rosalind Ave.): 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
    • Cars will be allowed to travel UP West Ridge/Rosalind and DOWN Peakwood. West Ridge from Peakwood to the top will be open.
  • Winchester Ave. (eastbound lane, Main St. to 8th St.): 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.
  • Wasena Ave. (Memorial Ave. to 12th St.): 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • 12th St. (Wasena Ave. to Winchester Ave.): 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • 8th St. (southbound, Day Ave. to Elm Ave.): 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Alleys between Elm Ave. and Luck Ave.: 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Mill Mountain Zoo will be open for business at noon

Parking
There will be several areas marked “No Parking” for the event on Friday and/or Saturday (marked in blue on the map).

Major NO PARKING ZONES include:

  • Avenham Ave. (northbound side from Clydesdale to Broadway)
  • S. Jefferson St. (southbound side from 24th St. to McClanahan)
  • Highland Ave. (westbound side from Jefferson to Ferdinand)
  • Ferdinand Ave. (eastbound side from Highland Ave. to Main St.)
  • Walnut Ave. (eastbound side from Belleview Ave. to Sylvan Road)
  • Several areas downtown

There will be many additional stop signs in place along the route in South Roanoke and Old Southwest. Please drive slowly, be alert for new stop signs, and always yield to runners.
