New YES Program Will Benefit Employees
Soon, employees who want to advance in their career will have an opportunity to apply to the new YES Program.
What Is YES?
YES (Your Efforts, Supported) is a Carilion-funded program that paves a path for you to learn, earn extra certifications and further your education to meet career goals. Ultimately, the program helps you move into higher paying roles that improve financial stability.
Any employee (with one or more years of service with Carilion) will be able to apply to the program. There is no fee to participate. Employees who qualify and are selected for the program will be enrolled at Virginia Western Community College in either an associate degree, or industry-recognized credential or certificate program.
Like the name, YES (Your Efforts, Supported) gives participants needed tools and support so they can be successful in working to meet their educational goals. Program participants receive their full Carilion wages and benefits while they are in training and going to school.
“We work with the program participants to determine what barriers may stand in the way of their success,” says Tara Wiedeman, Senior Director of Education and Organizational Development and one of the program developers. “Then we find ways to reduce or eliminate those barriers, so participants can truly focus on learning and training without the stress of balancing work and home responsibilities.”
Here’s how the program works.
- Review profiles of identified roles in the YES track. Each identified role includes information about its title and description, department/unit, work environment, core skills, pay range and career opportunities.
- Select a role and apply (with manager approval).
- If accepted, you will shadow someone in the role you want to pursue to see if that role is a good fit for you.
- Select your track and work with the program navigator to determine your custom path. During this time, you will assess areas of support and address personal challenges.
- Work hard to reinvent your skills by obtaining the degree or certification required for your desired role.
- Start your new career!
