Mike Goforth’s Cancer Journey: Care That Makes a Difference
In 2018, Mike Goforth, Virginia Tech associate athletics director and head trainer, experienced a series of alarming health events that led him to get a CT scan. Neurosurgeon Dr. Cara Rogers discovered the cause: a brain tumor.
Despite the grim diagnosis, Mike had complete confidence in Dr. Rogers and her team.
"It sounds crazy to say brain surgery was a wonderful experience, but it truly was," Mike says about the 6 ½-hour procedure at Carilion. "The care and compassion I received from Dr. Rogers and her team made all the difference.”
Mike’s journey didn’t end with the surgery. His surgeon and our Cancer Center staff became a crucial part of his recovery, providing the physical and emotional support he needed to navigate the challenges along the way with confidence.
