Lung Cancer Screening Event is Saturday, Nov. 8
Early detection of lung cancer is crucial. If caught before it spreads, the likelihood of surviving lung cancer for 5 years or more improves by 63%.
Saturday, Nov. 8 is National Lung Cancer Screening Day. To make lung cancer screenings more accessible for our employees and patients, we will offer Saturday appointments that day. Screening locations include: Roanoke, Franklin, Giles, Tazewell, New River Valley and Rockbridge.
Annual screenings are recommended because millions of Americans are considered at high risk for developing lung cancer. Medicare will cover the cost of annual screenings for patients ages 50 – 77. Many other insurance companies will cover the cost up to the age of 80.
Know Your Risk
- Are you currently a cigarette smoker, or have you quit smoking cigarettes within the last 15 years?
- Are your “Pack Years” more than 20? To calculate your pack years, multiply the number of years you smoked by the number of packs per day. If that number is higher than 20, you have an increased risk.
If you answered yes to either of the questions above, schedule your screening by calling 540-224-4649.
