Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are In
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization focused on patient safety, published its Hospital Safety Grades this morning.
CFMH received an “A” grade, CRMH a “B,” and CNRV earned a “C” for this particular reporting period.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a national rating that offers one perspective on how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm, errors, injuries, and infections. Hospitals receive a letter grade from A to F based on publicly reported data related to areas like infection prevention, surgical safety, staffing, and error reduction.
It’s one of several tools that can help patients and families choose where they receive care. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is based on data collected over the past 1 to 4 years, so it may not fully reflect the most recent improvements happening in our hospitals today. While these grades provide a helpful snapshot in time, patient safety is something we focus on every single day.
We’re proud of the progress we’ve made in patient safety—across our system, we’re earning full credit on all eligible structure and process measures. At the same time, there is always more we can do.
As we move forward, we’re continuing to focus on the fundamentals: reducing hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), improving patient safety indicators (PSIs), and enhancing the overall patient experience. This work touches every role, every day. By continuing to support one another, communicating clearly, and leading with compassion, we can keep making care safer and better for our patients—and for each other.
CFMH, CRMH and CNRV meet the criteria to be included in the Leapfrog rankings. Our other community hospitals are not included in the ratings because of their size
Our ultimate goal is for all qualifying hospitals to achieve an “A” grade by 2028. Due to the lagging reporting period for these grades, it’s important we continue to prioritize patient safety to move the needle in the future.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring. It is one of many ratings we pay attention to in our quest for exceptional quality and patient safety.
