Introducing a New Speaker Series from the Human Research Protections Office

Submitted by llstaley on

The Carilion Clinic Investigator Series, a new program from the Human Research Protections Office, launches this month with a virtual talk by Albert Arias, MD, titled “The Ethics of Clinical Research in Populations with Addiction.”

Dr. Arias, chief of Addiction Psychiatry, is a nationally recognized addiction psychiatrist and clinical researcher specializing in pharmacologic and precision medicine approaches to substance use disorders. His work has been supported by multiple federal grants, and he is widely recognized for his scholarship and leadership in addiction psychiatry, including serving as president of the Psychiatric Society of Virginia.

Dr. Arias’ talk is the first in the series of quarterly events at which Carilion Clinic researchers will share their experiences conducting human subjects research, offer practical insights, and spark conversations that support ethical, compliant, and innovative study practices.

“We want to build community among researchers across the system, excite and inspire physicians and research staff, and support the valuable work that they do through education,” said Andrea Mohr, manager of Human Subjects Research Ethics and Education.

The Carilion Clinic Investigator Series is open to anyone interested in research, whether you are just getting started or are an experienced investigator.

The inaugural session will take place Thursday, May 21, 1 - 2 p.m. To attend the virtual event, complete the registration form in Microsoft Teams. You will need to sign in if you are not already signed in.
