Our new CEO Steve Arner has announced several promotions as we begin to realign and reorganize departments that reported to him when he was COO.

Congratulations to our colleagues!

Mike Abbott, Pharm.D., has been promoted to President of Carilion Medical Center, which includes Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital and several clinical and practice sites in the vicinity. This new role is in addition to his current role as Senior Vice President with oversight of the Cardiovascular Institute and Oncology. He’ll continue to report to President and CEO Steve Arner. Mike began his career at Carilion in 1986 as a pharmacist. He returned in 2018 after nearly 30 years as a LewisGale executive, where he was responsible, at various points, for pharmacy, surgical services, and oncology before becoming Chief Operating Officer.

Paul Davenport, R.N., has been promoted to Senior Vice President. He’ll continue to report to President and CEO Steve Arner. Paul began his career as an EMS medic at Carilion Radford Community Hospital in 1993. He held various nursing leadership positions in the CRMH Emergency Department and served as Senior Director of Patient Transportation before being named Vice President in 2011.

Tami Frost, R.N., has been promoted to Senior Vice President and System Chief Nursing Officer. She’ll continue to report to President and CEO Steve Arner. Tami joined Carilion in 2023 from Trident Medical Center in Charleston, S.C., where she served as chief nursing executive. She has more than 20 years’ experience in healthcare, including senior roles at hospitals in South Carolina, Florida and Nevada. She began her career as a staff nurse.

Luis Richard has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Supply Chain, Facilities Services and Properties. Luis will continue to report to Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Jeanne Armentrout.  He’ll handle day-to-day operations related to Real Estate and Property Management as Senior Vice President Curtis Mills transitions to retirement next year. Curtis will continue to provide guidance on strategic projects.

Chris Turnbull will lead and coordinate the CEO transition work. Chris joined Carilion 10 years ago and most recently has been Senior Director in Communications, Marketing and Planning with responsibility for the corporate communications team, which he built from the ground up. Prior to his time at Carilion, he worked with and advised senior leaders at The World Bank, United Nations Women, the International Monetary Fund as well as Amazon. In his new role, he’ll assist with our CEO leadership transition.
