Groundbreakers: Organizational Changes

The vice president of Medicine role has grown over the years, with a large span of control over 12 Medicine department sections and a majority of the CMC inpatient beds. Debbie Huddleston’s retirement provided the opportunity to re-evaluate this position, and we’ve decided to divide this role. We are happy to announce that Hunter Choate has accepted the position of vice president of Medicine/Ambulatory-Clinic and Lindsay Collins has accepted the position of vice president of Medicine/Acute Care Services. Hunter and Lindsay will begin their new positions April 24, 2022.

Hunter Choate

Hunter received both a B.S.N. and M.S.N. from the University of Virginia. He went on to achieve a doctor of Nursing Practice from George Washington University.  Hunter began his career at Mary Washington Hospital in 2003 as an R.N., moving to UVa as their clinical manager, then transitioning to Augusta Health as their administrative director of Nursing. Hunter moved to Roanoke with his wife, Cynthia Choate, M.D., in 2019 when they joined Carilion Clinic. His vast knowledge in leadership development and process improvement, with a committed focus on quality outcomes and improving the patient experience, will help continue the strong initiatives in place within the Department of Medicine.

Lindsay Collins

Lindsay received a B.S.N from Radford University, an M.S.N. from the University of Virginia and a doctor of Nursing Practice from Radford University. She began her career in our Emergency Department and gained progressive leadership experience during her six-year tenure before transitioning to the director of Nursing at Correct Care Solutions, a contracted medical provider within the Western Virginia Regional Jail. Lindsay rejoined Carilion as the unit director on 12 West, then as clinical administrator and is presently the senior director of Inpatient Surgical Services/Inpatient Rehabilitation. Lindsay has a passion for nursing and stellar leadership experience at Carilion.
