Groundbreakers: Organizational Changes

Our President and CEO Steve Arner has announced some promotions and transitions as he moves forward leading our organization.

Promotions

• Wrenn Brendel is being promoted to vice president of Emergency Medicine. She will report to Senior Vice President Paul Davenport. After the Crystal Spring Tower is up and running, she’ll transition to report to System Chief Nursing Officer Tami Frost.
• Dr. Shyam Odeti has agreed to serve as the chief medical officer of CMC and CNRV. He will report to Chief Physician Executive Dr. Tony Seupaul.

Transitions

• Chief Medical Information Officer Dr. Steve Morgan, Chief Information Officer Keith Perry and Senior Vice President of Supply Chain, Facilities Services and Properties Luis Richard will report to Chief Financial Officer Don Halliwill.
• Given the significant investment we continue to make in our facilities, Vice President of Construction Marty Misicko will report to Senior Vice President of Finance Rob Vaughan.
• Rhonda Shannon has accepted the role of vice president of Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery, while continuing to support Finance. She will have matrixed reporting lines to President of Carilion Medical Center Mike Abbott and Don Halliwill.
• Ambulatory Services and Carilion Direct will report to Paul Davenport. Vice President for Clinical Support Tim Auwarter and Vice President of Family and Community Medicine Roger Roper will also report to Paul. Tim will oversee Carilion Clinic Patient Transportation in addition to his current responsibilities.
• Vice President of Clinical Advancement and Patient Safety and Ambulatory Medicine Hunter Choate, Vice President of Acute Care Medicine Lindsay Collins, Vice President of Women's and Children's Michelle Franklin, Vice President of Surgical Services and Anesthesiology Stephen Lovern and Vice President of Mental Health, Home Health and Hospice Lisa Sprinkel will report to Tami Frost. So will Care Management.
• Chief Legal Officer Nick Conte, Chief Human Resources Officer Paul Hudgins and Vice President of Communications, Marketing and Planning Tracy Clouser will report to Steve Arner.
  • Nick is being named chief governance officer in addition to his role as chief legal officer.
  • Paul will add responsibility for Occupational Health and Wellness.
  • Tracy will add responsibility for Community Impact, which was formerly called Community Health and Outreach.

New Positions

We will recruit for the following roles. Each of these recruitments could take six or more months to complete:

• Senior vice president and director of the Cardiovascular Institute. We will begin recruiting for this role this month.
• Chief operating officer. We will begin recruiting for this role in January.
• Replacement for Jeanne Armentrout’s chief administrative officer role. We will begin recruiting for this role in January.
• Vice president of Oncology. We have not yet determined when recruiting will begin for this role. Lindsay Collins will continue to oversee Oncology until a candidate is selected.
