Groundbreakers: Organizational Changes

Captain Edmund K. (Ed) Watkins has been named to succeed Chief Steve Lugar as the new chief of Police and director of Carilion Clinic Police and Security. Chief Watkins will take on this new role on Jan. 2, 2021.   

Ed has been with Carilion for 36 years and serves as commander of the Administration Division of the Police and Security Department which includes oversight of diverse and complex security systems across our enterprise. He is a graduate of the Criminal Justice degree program at Liberty University, the Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS) at the University of Richmond and the New River Criminal Justice Basic Training Academy. He is also a member of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police.
