Expanded Epilepsy Monitoring Unit Opens at CRMH

The Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at CRMH has moved from 9 Mountain to a newly renovated, larger space on 7 South, expanding our ability to provide specialized care for patients with complex epilepsy.

CRMH’s comprehensive epilepsy program has been accredited as a Level 4 Epilepsy Center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers since 2021. As part of the program, the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit provides comprehensive medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy. The new space includes 5 progressive care beds, with plans to add an ICU bed in the future. Its location beside the new neuroscience ICU, which is expected to open this fall, will further support coordinated neurological care.

“This new space strengthens our ability to provide highly specialized, coordinated care for patients with complex epilepsy,” said Dr. Chinekwu Anyanwu, medical director of the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. “It gives our team an environment designed specifically for epilepsy monitoring and evaluation while helping us improve access and guide patients toward the treatment that is right for them.”

The unit accepts elective patient admissions Monday through Friday for monitoring and evaluation. When not needed for epilepsy monitoring, the beds can also support overall PCU patient capacity.

Service-related inpatient nursing teams received specialized epilepsy training to help ensure patients receive knowledgeable, consistent care throughout their stay.

A new epilepsy monitoring unit has opened at 7 South, CRMH.

The space, which opened to patients in August, allows care teams to round efficiently in fewer locations.
