Do You Know Which Compliance Concerns Should Be Reported Right Away?
Our Compliance Department makes sure we are following the laws, rules, regulations and external standards that apply to us. One way they do that is by responding quickly to concerns that could result in harm to our patients, our employees or our organization.
There are some instances when you are required to immediately notify Compliance about concerns. Contact Compliance right away about any of the following:
- Discoverable loss or theft of a controlled substance
- Communication with local, state or federal law enforcement agencies associated with possible drug diversion
- Unannounced visits to Carilion facilities by a federal law enforcement agency
- Unannounced visits to Carilion facilities by a federal or state licensure body
- Unannounced visits to Carilion facilities by an accreditation body
- Any presented search warrant or court order by a federal, state or local law enforcement agency not associated with a medical records request
- Other circumstances where an employee believes immediate notification to Compliance may be necessary to appropriately detect and respond to a compliance issue
